SHAZAM THEATRE COMPANY
Shazam Theatre Company SCIO is a charity that delivers professional community-based drama tuition for young people in Aberdeen. Their aim is to promote, facilitate and encourage arts in the local community by offering a range of classes, which follow the school term.
The group meets on a weekly basis at the Rosemount Community Centre, with each class working towards an end-of-year production. In addition to the final production, Shazam also holds a series of performances and events throughout the year for members to share their work.
The company welcomes people with any level of experience and doesn’t hold auditions for new members. They strive to inspire young people and give them an opportunity to participate in arts in a variety of different ways. Their work is focused on the personal development of members, both as a performer and as an individual, and on providing a fun atmosphere them to socialise, build-up their confidence and create new friendships.
Shazam's team has been recognised on a local and national level for their contribution to community arts and has won a number of awards, including the ACE Award for Outstanding Achievement and the Castlegate Trophy for Best Stage Presentation at the 2019 Scottish Community Drama Association Festival (North). Their past productions include praised musicals such as Oliver!, The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan.
